Celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month

We are excited to once again celebrate this year’s LGBTQ+ History Month throughout the whole of February.
This year’s theme is Activism and Social Change which highlights the incredible contributions LGBTQ+ have made to make the world a better place through their hard work, in the past and today.
This year Attenborough Arts Centre, the University of Leicester and Leicester Student Union are hosting a range of events in celebration of the diversity of people within the community. Get involved throughout the whole of February by exploring our events below:
Apittame Arts: Creative Writing Group – Theme Love
Saturday 15 February, 3pm – 4:30pm, Pay What You Can
Come, spend an evening writing and exploring your imagination.
You don’t have to be Shakespeare or Maya Angelou; all you need is a pen, some paper. You can create a world outside of the woes of everyday life. Together during this session, I hope to explore with you some creative writing following themes of love and all its forms. All that is required from you is your presence and openness to share the writings that are created in this space.

There are always ongoing organisations and events that support and uplift the community as well that you can get involved in throughout the year!
Leicester LGBT+ Centre
The centre has been supporting LGBT+ communities in Leicester since 1976 providing support, community and joy to those they work with. Their mission is to create a fair and equal society where all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people can achieve their full potential. Working across Leicester, we are fortunate to host some of their activities such as a Dungeon & Dragons Group every Monday, The Pantones Centre Choir every Tuesday, and an LGBT+ Youth Group every Wednesday. Visit their website to learn more about their mission and events.
