DESCRIPTION:“Remember you are African first before anything”\, wise words from Chile’s mother. \nThis semi-autobiographical one woman show explores the complexities of the African mother-daughter bond. The protagonist\, Chile\, a British Nigerian woman in her mid-twenties is faced with a huge responsibility as the family’s first daughter. \nHer mother who is very traditional in her beliefs is concerned that since moving to England that her daughter is becoming whitewashed and wants to uphold her family by making sure her first daughter sets a good example. \nAmong other topics\, the drama explores feminism\, marriage\, and tradition. We are drawn into Chile’s world through the use of monologues\, voiceovers and music\, as she attempts to get her mother to see her for the woman she is growing into. \nAge guidance: 13+

SUMMARY:Craft & Art Fair
DESCRIPTION:Our popular Craft & Art Fair returns to showcase the work of some of the best local and regional craft makers and artists. \nMeet\, browse and buy from over 50 curated exhibitors at each fair\, showcasing their jewellery\, glass\, ceramics\, textiles\, printmaking\, painting\, wood\, stationery\, homewares\, accessories\, artisan foods and more. Our galleries\, shop and café will also be open all day\, 11am – 4pm. \nBooking is recommended beforehand however we also encourage people to drop-in on the day of the fair. Children and adults all require tickets but pricing is up to the individual. \nThe Fair will also sell work from the late Alan Caine\, who helped launch the Attenborough Arts Centre in 1997. His estate donated the artwork to raise funds for the Centre\, ensuring access to the arts for all. All artwork is pay-what-you-can. \n  \nRecommended Price: £1 \nNote: Applications are now closed for stallholders. \n  \nWhat are ‘Pay What You Can’ tickets?\nWe believe that that arts should be accessible for all. For this reason some of our shows and events this year will be ‘Pay What You Can’\, meaning that you decide how much you can or want to pay. This expands access to the arts for those who may not have been able to participate otherwise\, or gives others the chance to support those who cannot by paying a bit extra. \nYou will see multiple prices available for each show or event. You can select whichever price you can afford or would like to pay – thank you. \n
