From earliest times visual images have been used to record, present and pass on stories. Narrative Art has developed its own subtle codes of gesture, sign and symbol to show subtle meaning which this course will explore.
The ability to depict emotion and expression has brought stories to life filling art with pathos and drama. The rise of Abstraction saw a move away from storytelling within the avant garde, but contemporary art now revels in the artist as story teller, an heir to artists such as Giotto, Masaccio and Titian.
This course is taught through richly-illustrated lectures by three experienced tutors: Miriam Gill, David Antill and Ellie Pridgeon.
The course will run on Wednesday mornings, 10:30am -12pm, for 10 weeks, starting on Wednesday 17 April 2024. The final session will be on Wednesday 10 July 2024.
Please note: no sessions on 8 May, 29 May or 26 June 2024.
Participants must be aged 18+.
