Captured on Canvas

Description
Are you passionate about learning traditional portrait painting? In eight weeks artist Jemisha Maadhavji will take you from prepping your canvas right through to confidently creating a portrait using oil paints.
Jemisha will demonstrate painting techniques, teaching key skills and knowledge to support traditional and contemporary portrait painting with oils.
Sessions will focus on building up an understanding of the medium of oil paint, colour theory, a variety of oil painting techniques such as Alla Prima and glazing, proportion and more.
Starting off with painting small studies of facial features such as eyes, nose, and mouths, Jemisha’s tutoring will include full demonstrations and step-by-step demonstrations followed by supporting participants to have a go themselves.
Most of the lessons will be based on painting from photographs or previous artist studies, with at least one opportunity to work from a model.
To find out more about Jemisha’s own work, you can see her featured on the fantastic BBC 1 series Extraordinary Portraits which first aired on 24 July:https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001p33l
Participants must be aged 16+. Under 18s must be accompanied by a paying adult at all times.
This 8-week course will run on Tuesday evenings, 6-8.30pm, starting on 24 October with the final session on 12 December 2023.
