Cyanotypes for Beginners

Description
Learn how to create your own ‘blueprints’ and explore the different techniques for using the early photographic processes of cyanotype. Create delicate blue floral designs or use 3D objects to create ghostly images. All materials are provided, but you can bring your own plants and objects to create images with if you’d like to.
In this 4-hour session you will learn the full process, creating multiple artworks, and will take away the knowledge to keep experimenting at home. Suitable for all levels of ability and no photography experience necessary.
The process of making a cyanotype involves using paper (or other surface) coated in UV light sensitive chemicals and exposing it to sunlight or artificial UV light before washing with water to create the distinctive blue and white images.
Participants will create several unique images, including one to go on the front of a greetings card. At the end of the workshop, you will understand the steps to making cyanotypes and feel confident to try making more at home.
Following a brief introductory talk, including a little history and a step-by-step demonstration of the cyanotype process, Emily will provide precoated paper to get participants going straight away, as it’s a process that is better understood through doing.
Emily is a fine art graduate, a keen photographer and printmaker, currently working as a self-employed artist running lots of cyanotype workshops at galleries, arts centres and private venues.
All materials will be provided.
Participants must be aged 18+.
