Dhrupad: A Concert of Indian Classical Vocal Music

This is a rare opportunity to hear Dhrupad – the oldest form of Indian Classical Music from the 16th century, still being performed today, and enjoying a resurgence.
Pandit Uday Bhawalkar is a leading maestro of Dhrupad vocal steeped in the centuries old Guru-Shishya tradition of learning and teaching. He is an artiste of international renown and has received prestigious awards including the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Kumar Gandharva Samman, and Hanumant Award. He is also dedicated teacher and is senior Guru at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata, and at the Bengal Foundation’s Parampara Sangeetalay in Dhaka.
Udayji will be accompanied by Sardar Jasdeep Singh on the Jori drums, and Shri Kirit Singh on the Tanpura. This programme is presented in conjunction with the Dhrupad Music Society and The Bhavan Centre, London.
