Expressing a Sense of Place

Description
10 week course starting on Wednesday 3 May 2023 (exc 31 May)
Course Description:
Utilising the atmosphere of gardens, rural areas, coastal scenes, woodlands and architectural environments, you will learn to use a variety of mediums and techniques to create your own work of art.
Each week tutor, Peter Clayton, will demonstrate and illustrate various techniques and approaches using a mixture of painting and drawing media. Together, you will look at representational and abstract modes of expression through the use of paint application, colours, tone, line and shape. You will explore notions of grandeur, intimacy, energy, calmness, space, movement and time.
Inspiration from visual sources will be supplied and suggested by the tutor, but you are encouraged to bring your own photos and sketches, as well as memories, experiences and imagination to make your work personal.
Artists of note to explore:
Ivon Hitchens, Haidi Jo Summers, Saul Leiter, Aaron Siskind, Ann Blockley, Corot, Hokusai, Carry Ackroyd, Tim Ball, Jane Hindmarch, Eric Ravilious, Melvyn Evans, Jane Bevan, Andy Goldsworthy, Lucy Jones, and Lesley Birch.
