Get Writing! A one-day workshop to kickstart your creative writing journey

Description
If you have ever wanted to try your hand at creative writing then this is the workshop for you!
Feel you have a poem, a short story, memoir or novel inside you but don’t know where to start?
Have you written in the past but seem to have lost your creative flow?
Would you like to try your hand at some interesting and innovative creative writing prompts in a safe and supportive learning environment?
This one-day Saturday workshop assumes no previous knowledge or experience of any form of creative writing and with the guidance of an experienced writer and workshop facilitator, you will be able to try a range of different and accessible writing prompts and activities to kickstart your creativity.
This workshop would also be of interest and value to more experienced writers who may have mislaid their creative mojo! We will be trying our hands at poetry, memoir and reminiscence and the super-short story.
Workshop plan:
– Introductions and ice-breaker activity
– What’s getting in the way of us writing – understanding and combatting our creative blocks
– Writing prompt 1 – Free writing – writing without our internal editor
– Writing prompt 2 – using our senses to make a piece of writing
– Sharing our work and feedback
– Writing prompt 3 – using an existing piece of writing to inspire our own work
– Techniques to develop good writing practises
– Writing prompt 4 – using tangible objects as a source of memoir writing
– Writing prompt 5 – the micro story – writing a 100-word short story
– Writing prompt 6 – the list poem
– Setting our personal writing goals and possibly finding ourselves a writing buddy
– Sharing anything we’ve written today
