Jazz Performance Workshop

Description
Course Description:
This course will introduce you to playing in a jazz band, or provide opportunity for you to improve your knowledge and skills.
You will work on a number of tunes over the course, modelling a real playing experience, as well as playing together as a group, learning tunes and improvising. As far as possible we will function as a jazz band would. This somewhat depends on the mix of instruments participating. Within this we will consider orthodox performance conventions, and allow participants to try improvising (or improve this skill) in a supportive environment.
This is a practical course focussed on playing, but theory and improvisation techniques relevant to the tunes being played will feature. This course is for anyone with reasonable proficiency, who can read music or chord symbols, but those who play by ear are also welcome. It is not suitable for beginners to their chosen instrument.
Course Tutor:
Richard Everitt is a Leicester-based professional saxophonist and composer, who regularly perform across the UK. His passion for jazz have lead him to coaching the jazz ensemble at De Montfort University – set up in 2016, as well as teaching jazz in other institutions.
