Felted fibres making a countryside scene with a tree.

Description

Enjoy a fun and creative day ‘painting with wool’… Explore the ancient art of wet felting, and leave with a beautiful piece of felted art to be proud of!

This course is an excellent introduction to the medium of wet felting. You will learn not only what wet felting is and how to use different types of wool fleece, but also how to create a picture with depth and perspective using layers, using different types of yarn, silk and plant fibres to create texture and add detail.

The final hour of the workshop will involve using soap and water and the traditional felting techniques of rubbing and rolling to felt all the fibres together, and tutor Karen will discuss how you can use further textile techniques and needle felting to further embellish your artwork if you wish too later at home.

Your finished picture will measure approximately 30x30cm.

This workshop is suitable for those who are complete beginners in wet felting, or those who have felted before but wish to learn how to create a detailed picture with depth and perspective.

Tutor Karen Stewart has been creating with textiles all her adult life and wet felting for the last 10 years. She has a particular interest in creating depth and texture in all her work and using colour to create mood. Karen’s own felt art depicts nature’s spaces such as woodlands, seascapes and riverscapes, and her colour combinations are inspired by nature’s seasons, the changing light and the mood created by those seasons.

She has been teaching workshops for several years and loves encouraging students to explore their ideas and creativity.

All equipment and materials are provided.
