Description
WORD! and BrightSparks present:
Clothes Swap Story Shop with Cathi Rae
12pm – 4pm (12pm -2pm drop-in poetry workshop, 3pm-4pm performance)
Come on down for the launch of a brand new WORD! Season – kicked off in style by BrightSparks’ brilliant, Clothes Swap Story Shop and Cathi Rae – poet, campaigner against ageism and body positive model.
The afternoon will be headlined by ‘spoken word icon’ and activist, Cathi Rae, alongside Clothes Swap Poetry Shop – a group of diverse women, meeting with Cathi in the Belgrave community to explore fashion, textiles, journeys, sustainable living and mental health
Cathi Rae is a poet, spoken word artist and educator. She is currently in the final stages of a practice led/creative PhD at the University of Leicester, where she was also a graduate of the MA in Creative Writing. She has performed throughout the UK, including readings at Womad Festival, The Houses of Commons, Chiltern Arts Festival and many spoken word and poetry events up and down the M1 and M6. She has just published two new pamphlets of poetry with Two Pigeons Press: Just This Side of Seaworthy and Other Poems, and Rock, Paper, Scissors and Other Poems.
If you would like to share poetry or spoken word on the open mic email hello@wordpoetry.co.uk – material exploring clothes and the international sustainable themes of the event is particularly welcome.
What are ‘Pay What You Can’ tickets?
We believe that that arts should be accessible for all. For this reason some of our shows and events this year will be ‘Pay What You Can’, meaning that you decide how much you can or want to pay. This expands access to the arts for those who may not have been able to participate otherwise, or gives others the chance to support those who cannot by paying a bit extra.
