Description

Use the photographic process of cyanotype to create beautiful Christmas decorations for your home.

In this 3-hour festive workshop you’ll learn the basic cyanotype process, which creates a blue image, using pressed plants and other 2D and 3D objects. Then use your cyanotype prints to create a variety of decorations to hang on your tree, around your home or to give as gifts. We will even add a splash of colour with pens and paint.

All materials are provided, but you can bring your own plants and objects to create images with if you’d like to.

This festive workshop is suitable for all levels of ability and absolutely no photography experience is necessary.

Tutor Emily will start the day with a brief introductory talk, including a little history and a step-by-step demonstration of the cyanotype process, before you get hands on! You can keep the process simple or add complexity to the image-making and experiment depending on how adventurous you feel!

Tutor Emily Withers is a fine art graduate, currently working as a part-time, self-employed artist delivering lots of workshops like this one and private classes across the Midlands. She is a keen photographer and printmaker, and more recently has discovered foraging and learning about the uses of plants. She exhibits her work in galleries and sells at craft fairs throughout the year, and has also worked here at the Attenborough Arts Centre as a gallery assistant.

Our café will be open during your visit or you are welcome to bring your own refreshments.

Please be aware, this is not a stationary workshop – there will be a lot of moving around the studio between stations during the session so please consider this if you have limited mobility. The studio is wheelchair accessible.

All materials are provided.

The 3-hour workshop will be repeated twice on Saturday 23 November 2024 – book either 10.30am-1.30pm or 2-5pm.

Participants must be 14+. Under 18s must be accompanied by a paying adult at all times.

Please ensure that you agree to our updated Terms & Conditions before booking as courses/workshops are non-refundable in some circumstances.
