Description

Be inspired by words, text, music and sound to create expressive pictures in a variety of media.

Each week (or two depending on the project) tutor Peter Clayton will propose a project taking written words or music as a starting point for creating pictures.

There will be demonstrations of suggested techniques and uses of various media by the tutor and you’ll be shown examples of other artists’ work as inspiration.

Projects will include expressing given text/words, illustrating given text/words, creating a (large!) bookmark based on your chosen text, creating an album cover based on a piece of music, a response to a piece of music provided by the tutor and using text as an image.

Artists that may be suggested as inspiration include Wassily Kandinsky, Tom Phillips, Sarah Z. Short, Edward Bawden, Paul Cox, Angie Lewin, Rex Ray, Neil Fujita, Sara Fanelli, Eva Kalien, Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Clare Curtis.

Tutor Peter Clayton holds a Fine Art degree and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Over a 40+ year career he has shown in over 160 solo and group exhibitions and has collaborated widely with artists of various disciplines, undertaken residences, and worked with local authorities, museums, interior designers and publishers. His personal work has encompassed a wide variety of painting and printmaking media. Subject matter has been inspired by the landscape (particularly woodland), architecture and family history. Peter has taught courses in Adult and Further Education at numerous venues for 36 years and has been a tutor at Attenborough Arts for 25 years.
