Creativity with a Conscience: Our Actions

As a team we work together to lower our carbon emissions where we can, however you can help us to every time you visit Attenborough Arts Centre.

As an individual we may not think our actions can make a difference, but if we come together as a collective we can achieve more together. This can be anything as small as not littering to as big as changing to a green energy provider. Somethings are easier or more achievable for others based on different circumstances, so it’s not about feeling guilty about what we can’t do but just doing what we can. We are all on the same plant at the end of the day! Below are some ideas of how we can help reduce your carbon footprint whether you are at the centre, at your home or anywhere on this Earth.

Consider travel

When visiting the centre sometimes you just have to take the car, but if it’s a possibility for yourself you could consider other options. This includes walking, taking a bike for a leisurely cycle, or public transport. On our visit page we have a list of local public transport that comes to Attenborough Arts Centre you can explore. Studies have shown that replacing car journeys with public transport can help reduce CO2 emissions by 42% by using the bus and 73% by using the train.

Bring your own reusable cups

At the centre we have a wonderful café and free water refill station. We have cups available for use, however studies show that if reusable cups replaced single-use cups, carbon emissions could fall by 69%. In UK terms, a switch from disposable cups to reusable cups could save 52,000 t CO2e each year – a huge saving! It also means you can take it with you anywhere you go, plus many places now offer discounts if you bring your own reusable cup for a beverage which saves you money overall.

Get involved in community action

There is lots you can do at the centre and in your own home (ever considered composting your own food waste?), but so much more can be achieved when we work with others. Friends of the Earth Leicester is part of the UK’s biggest grassroots network dedicated to protecting people and plant. The University of Leicester is also part of local groups to help make our environment more climate friendly and healthier for us all to live in. There are so many things that we can do in our everyday to make a little difference, but everything adds up in the end.
