Safeguarding Policies and Procedures
Attenborough Arts Centre is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children, young people under 18, University of Leicester students over the age of 18 and Adults at Risk who engage with our programmes, visit our spaces, or receive our services.
We take all concerns, disclosures, allegations of abuse, and indicators of harm seriously, responding swiftly, proportionately in full accordance with statutory guidance.
We uphold a culture of safeguarding that normalises proactive, open conversations about safety and wellbeing, ensuring that any actual or potential concerns are always raised early, reviewed and acted on as required. At Attenborough Arts Centre, safeguarding is understood as everyone’s responsibility, embedded through documented policy and procedures as well as open communication and practical day‑to‑day organisational systems, processes and behaviours.
Our safeguarding framework includes:
- Safeguarding Policy for Children and Young People
- Safeguarding Policy for Adults at Risk
- Safeguarding Procedures
- Code of Conduct that everyone must follow

Our Safeguarding policies and procedures are reviewed annually by Attenborough Arts Centre’s Advisory Board and are monitored throughout the year by our Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) and Deputy DSO, who ensure that updates reflect changes in legislation, guidance and best practice.
As a department of the University of Leicester, Attenborough Arts Centre aligns fully with the University’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures and works in partnership with University safeguarding leads to ensure a consistent, robust approach across the institution.
