Join us for an after-hours art experience with Attenborough Late
Join us for the return of Attenborough Late, a fun-packed after-hours art experience the takes over our whole building.
This year our galleries and café will be buzzing with music, dance, performances and craft workshops, with a range of refreshments available for purchase. This includes life drawing with plants, DJ’s utilising physical media, up-and-coming performances, and so much more plus the opportunity to see Leicester-based artist Tim Fowler demonstrate live-painting in gallery 1 which currently holds his latest exhibition, ‘The Ground’. This is the exhibitions last week of being open, with this event being a unique spectacle to see Tim live in action.
Current Line-Up (with more to be announced):
Tim Fowler Live Painting in Gallery 1 – Experience live-painting surrounded by Tim’s own artwork in the exhibition ‘The Ground’. An incredible opportunity to see art created in real time and understand Tim’s process.
DJ Sets by Hoo Haa DJ – A record club where each DJ can only mix with physical media. Expect a range of records, CD’s, cassettes and who knows what else.
Plant Life Drawing – Go big or go small, but don’t go home and miss this! Join our life drawing expert, tutor and artist Scott Bridgwood, and an array of beautiful plant life to create your own botanical artwork inspired by Tim Fowler’s vibrant colour palette.
Performance by Mellow Baku, Multi Tribe – Mellow Baku is an artist who has performed in venues across the UK and internationally for over a decade. She draws on her cultural heritage fusing soul, folk and jazz improvisation, while combining guitar and vocal loops to produce soundscapes, songs and spoken word.
Paula Varjack discussing ‘Nine Sixteenths’ – Paula Varjack, an artist working in video, performance & participation. She is drawn to big social questions, using pop culture as a way of framing and making them more accessible (and fun!). ‘Nine Sixteenths’ is an examination of iconic black female role models using the rise, fall and rise again of Janet Jackson.
Plant Pot Decorating – Create your own painted plant pots inspired by the Caribbean plants, vibrant colours and energy of The Ground by Tim Fowler. Relax in our studio space – and make your own pot to take home with you.
Matt Miller discussing ‘Fixing’ – “Fixing is a novel collision between queer culture and mechanics. The reflective moments could be darker and the happier moments more exuberant, but Miller is as sharp in audience interaction as they are precise as an actor, taking us on a tender, funny and diverting off-road adventure.” – The Guardian, Nov 2024
Attenborough Late takes place Friday 24 January, 7pm – 10pm, with Pay What You Can tickets. Put on your favourite outfit and anticipate a vibrant, exploratory atmosphere teeming with good vibes to kick-start your weekend!
