Description

Next Gen. Creatives and Inclusive Youth Arts (18-24) showcase their responses to ARTIST ROOMS Jenny Holzer exhibition through print, zines, poetry, performance, light and more.

American artist Jenny Holzer uses text as her primary material. Born in 1950, she remains one of the most influential figures in contemporary art. Known for powerful, provocative installations and her creative use of electronic technology, she produces art that is impossible to ignore. Holzer’s work has taken many forms, often appearing in public spaces, on posters, t-shirts, carved stone, signs and large-scale outdoor projections, as well as in museums and galleries across the world.

Next Gen. Creatives

Next Gen. Creatives invites young people aged 16-25 to shape our artistic programme, empowering them to become the next generation of artists, curators, performers and creative professionals. The name, chosen by the participants, is inspired by the slogan: ‘we are the next generation dreamers’. By joining Next Gen. Creatives, young people in Leicester have the opportunity to network with professional artists and practitioners, gain valuable life skills and learn about the various employment pathways open to them in the arts and creative sector. In recent years the group has delivered their own workshops, curated their own exhibitions, met internationally renowned artists and taken part in artist-led workshops.

Inclusive Youth Arts (18-24)

We provide much-needed opportunities for children and young people with complex needs and disabilities to be creative outside of school, promoting their wellbeing and enjoyment of being with others. Our participants have a range of disabilities which without additional support, make it difficult for them to participate in culture and creativity, including but not limited to PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties), Autism, ADHD (Attention Deficiency Hyperactive Disorder), Auditory, speech and visual impairments, Down’s Syndrome and Global Developmental Delay.
