Celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month 2024
We are excited to once again celebrate this year’s LGBTQ+ History Month throughout the whole of February.
This year’s theme is Medicine #UnderTheScope which celebrates LGBTQ+ contributions to the field of medicine and healthcare. The theme also encourages us to listen to LGBTQ+ peoples’ lived experiences as hate crime and health inequalities rise.
This year Attenborough Arts Centre, the University of Leicester and Leicester Student Union are hosting a range of events in celebration of the diversity of people within the community. Get involved throughout the whole of February by exploring our events below:
Family Gallery Workshops – Pride Portraits
Saturday 3 February & 17 February, 1pm – 3pm, Free
February is LGBTQ+ History month, and at Attenborough we are keen on celebrating that! For the Saturday Workshops we are keen on combining LGBTQ+ History and the idea of family – what is family, what does a chosen family mean and can we choose our own families? In the workshops, families are asked to make a big colourful photo frame and to have a photoshoot, even dress up with the costumes and accessories provided – be who you want to be!

Apittame Arts: Creative Writing Group – Theme Love
Saturday 10 February, 2pm – 3:30pm, Pay What You Can
Come, spend an evening writing and exploring your imagination. You don’t have to be Shakespeare or Maya Angelou; all you need is a pen, some paper. You can create a world outside of the woes of everyday life. During this session, explore creative writing following themes of love and all its forms. All that is required from you is your presence and openness to share the writings that are created in this space.
