Meet our Tutors: Mindful Making with Mel Rye

One of our Creative Course tutors, Mel Rye, is ready to bring you a sense of playfulness! Mel’s work celebrates humour, silliness and the unexpected to create joyful pieces, which have appeal to both children and adults.

A qualified teacher, Mel worked as the Head of Art in a college for 15 years, moving onto teaching in universities, community spaces, art galleries, outdoor events and also online.

As a tutor at Attenborough Arts Centre, she has been teaching mindful drawing and abstract pattern collage workshops and courses, which have been hugely popular with our art lovers! On Sunday 27 August, Mel is back with another fabulous workshop: Abstract Pattern Collages: Mindful Drawing and Intuitive Collage for Self-care.

Mel has had experience working in mixed media, combining drawing, collage and paper cutting, which she often manipulates digitally, and she is always experimenting with new materials giving a fresh an exciting edge to her work.

She has also worked with students from age 4 to 94, with a range of physical disabilities and neurodiverse conditions. Mel is passionate about inclusivity strongly believing everyone can make art.
