Bringing the Seaside to Students: Summertime 22

Yesterday we took over Centenary Square on University of Leicester campus to bring students Summertime 22: Attenborough Arts Centre Takeover! Complete with free ice-cream, fun fair games with prize, creative crafts and more – we turned the square into our own mini beach vacation.

An all-day event to celebrate the end of the academic year, our takeover brought the fun and light-heartedness of the British Seaside to Leicester as, to no surprise, we do not get to experience the sea much often in the city.

From 11am to 8pm we engaged eager students to bring them unforgettable events and showcase all the centre has to offer. This includes a Pottery Throwdown where you could have a go on a pottery wheel but you had to be quick in order to win £50, a Sam Metz interactive sculpture, Life-Drawing, Fun Fair Games such as Hook-a-Duck and Balls in a Bucket, and an evening film screening of Paddington created by our Attenborough Advocates in response to our ‘In Which Language Do We Dream’ exhibition. It was an incredible day that brought in over 300 students and sold out film screening.

We can’t wait for future student’s events such as our upcoming Gallery Lates for next exhibition Bruce McLean Black Garden Paintings, and a special thanks to our Attenborough Advocates for creating the film event. Explore some of the pictures below to see our Seaside Takeover – just watch out for the seagulls!
