We believe that it is always time to learn something new – whether it because you want a new craft or because your creativity is flowing, either way it is never too late to pick up a new passion. As part of our new creative courses for Summer 2022, we have an exciting 8-week creative course called Modern Patchwork & Quilting for Beginners, headed by the talented Kathleen Anderson. It is an amazing workshop that will leave you with everything you need to know to create your own stunning quilts, but let’s get to know Kathleen first to understand her passion and skill for the craft.

A quilter, quilting teacher, and quilt pattern designer, Kathleen is a mother of two little girls, wife to a physics teacher, and owner of a beautiful cat called Honey. She first began to quilt in her mid-30’s through trial and error, and the refusal to give up! However, she established her own school, the Cowden Quilt School, in the village of Cowden, Kent in 2016 when a friend asked her to teach her how to make a patchwork quilt. Through this Kathleen discovered her passion for teaching others and showing them how to shortcut all the mistakes she made when she first started. Since then, the school has grown to having an online presence with patterns and online workshops available, and hosting in-person courses across the South-East of England and now the Midlands.

As well as the school, Kathleen is also a Sew Hot brand rep for quilting and helps author and fellow designer, Sarah Ashford, run the Great British Quilter Facebook community.

“Making quilts is my purpose, teaching others to quilt is my passion, and designing quilts patterns is my joy.” – Kathleen Anderson
