Celebrating LGBT+ History Month

30th January 2026

We are excited to once again celebrate this year’s LGBT+ History Month throughout the whole of February.

This year’s theme is Science and Innovation as it impacts our daily lives, from the technology we use to developments in healthcare, as well as helping us to address global challenges such as climate change and access to clean energy. The theme aims to highlight the contributions of LGBT+ people historically and today, and to raise awareness of the people behind them.

This year Attenborough Arts Centre, the University of Leicester and Leicester Student Union are hosting a range of events in celebration of the diversity of people within the community. Get involved throughout the whole of February by exploring the Universities events and our upcoming event:

Apittame x Queer Coffee Linkups: Art for Freedom

Saturday 28 February, 2pm – 5pm, Pay What You Can

‘Art For Freedom’ is an exciting, all-ages showcase event happening in February 2026 in Leicester.

It’s a celebration of community, connection, the many ways we find our sense of belonging in the world and express freedom. We invite you to experience an inspiring mix of, spoken word, and performances—each uniquely capturing the theme of finding your tribe and embracing the power of community.

Age Recommendation: 16+

There are always ongoing organisations and events that support and uplift the community as well that you can get involved in throughout the year!

Leicestershire LGBT+ Centre

The centre has been supporting LGBT+ communities in Leicester since 1976 providing support, community and joy to those they work with. Their mission is to create a fair and equal society where all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people can achieve their full potential. Working across Leicester, we are fortunate to host some of their activities such as a Well-being Wednesday Drop-ins, The Pantones Centre Choir and an LGBT+ Youth Group. Visit their website to learn more about their mission and events.
