Have you ever wanted to try a new hobby or craft but your budget doesn’t quite stretch to cover it? The new Student Experience Fund with the University of Leicester can help you give something new a go. Evidence shows that students who take part in extra-curricular activities achieve better degree outcomes than their peers who do not (Greenbank, 2013; Kerrigan and Manktelow, 2021). We have teamed up with the University to offer a range of artistic experience alongside a range of other offers! Please note that this is only open to University of Leicester students.

What does the Fund offer?

The University of Leicester offer bursaries (non-repayable) of up to £100 to students to assist you in taking part in extra-curricular activities that you may not be able to take part in due to long-term financial constraints. This fund will help you take part in activities such as:

  • Exercise classes
  • Art or creative activities
  • Membership to choirs or orchestras
  • Equipment to take part in an activity or volunteering

We do not want to give a list of potential activities as we do not know everything that is out there!

Please check the dates that we will be issuing funds before applying; you will not receive money for activities that take place before the application deadline.

Eligibility

All current Home Undergraduate students will be eligible to apply for the fund, whether you are a current student or resitting without residence.

Unfortunately, International students are not eligible.

Students can apply year on year if they meet the shortlisting criteria (below), students who do not may only apply once. Students are eligible if they are a current student, or a resit with residence student.

When to apply

Applications for the fund are open until 1 December 2026.

We will review all the applications for eligibility and if they are appropriate for the fund. There is not a pre-determined number of awards as it will depend on how much money people are asking for.

What happens next

We will let you know if you are successful by 11 December 2026.

The fund will be transferred to your bank account or a voucher issued once you have confirmed you are still interested in receiving the funding.
