Celebrating Pride Month 2024

Happy Pride Month! June is a vibrant and inclusive celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, reflecting on their history and achievements while understanding the ongoing struggles for equality.

This month brings together individuals and communities as a powerful reminder of the importance of acceptance, diversity and love. Taking place from 1 – 30 June, there are so many ways you can get involved this month.

University of Leicester Students

Did you know that the University has a LGBT+ Society? They aim to bring together and represent UOL students that identify as LGBTQIA+, as well as anyone who wishes to learn and support the community. The team holds social events that range from weekly meetups to bar crawls and movie nights. Additionally, they organise fundraising events and campaigns for LGBT+ rights and awareness. Learn more and get involved by visiting their webpage.

Leicester LGBT+ Centre

The centre has been supporting LGBT+ communities in Leicester since 1976 providing support, community and joy to those they work with. Their mission is to create a fair and equal society where all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people can achieve their full potential. Working across Leicester, we are fortunate to host some of their activities such as a Dungeon & Dragons Group every Monday, The Pantones Centre Choir every Tuesday, and an LGBT+ Youth Group every Wednesday. Visit their website to learn more about their mission and events.

Pride Walk

Later in the year, you can look forward to the Leicester Pride Walk Saturday 31 August which celebrates equality and diversity within the community. A family event with entertainment and attractions for all, the parade takes place across the city centre leading to its final location at Abbey Park. With DJ’s, live music, hot food and fair ground rides, the event attracts more than 10,000 people a year. Make sure you get it in your diary to attend this incredible event!
