Angélica Teuta: Inner Jungle [Putumayo]

October 3 - December 14

Angélica Teuta creates art based on the concept of ‘Emotional Architecture’, building common spaces through emotions, human connections and creativity.

The Colombian artist’s work goes beyond the visible structures of walls and buildings. Angélica’s artistic practice sees her creating spaces which feel meaningful to visitors. She does this by considering how people relate to each other and by exploring the importance of cultural roots and ancestral knowledge, as well as our deep links with the natural world.

Here at Attenborough Arts Centre, Angélica will use a series of overhead projectors to compose a jungle scene from Putumayo, a region in Colombia, made from tree silhouettes in cardboard, papers and coloured acrylic sheets moved by computer fans. As the layers are superimposed, the viewer is transported to a natural yet enchanting environment.

The resulting exhibition, Inner Jungle [Putumayo], not only provides relief from the pressures and stress of city life; it also highlights how much greenery we have lost in urban areas and questions how we can create spaces which soothe our soul – whether they exist in reality or simply in our imaginations.

Angélica Teuta’s large-scale works have been presented in New York (USA), Toronto (Canada), Oslo (Norway), Warsaw (Poland), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Buenos Aires (Argentina), San José (Costa Rica), Bogotá, Medellín and Cali (Colombia). In 2025 Angélica was shortlisted for the prestigious Luis Caballero Prize with her latest large-scale installation ‘Emotional Architecture: Shelters and Abodes’.
