We are partnering with local creative community groups for our weekly Sunday Sessions, to support artists and organisations while bringing you incredible workshops each week.

The sessions are designed and led by a local artist and groups, as they bring their own expertise to facilitate exciting creative workshops. Ranging from painting to pottery, wellbeing to pattern-making, there is always something amazing happening in these relaxed and welcoming sessions. No need to have previous experience, join us to learn something new while meeting local communities.

Our Sunday Sessions are part of our ongoing commitment to making art accessible to all. Our Learning team are working hard to expand our public programmes, providing open spaces for communities to come together in welcoming and inspiring environments.

Each session will be based in our Attenborough Café or the Salmon Gallery, and are free for everyone.

Please note that on the dates the community groups are not doing their sessions, we will have our regular Sunday Sessions set up with crafting materials, boardgames and dress-up materials facilitated by our Learning Team.

Illuminate: Sacred Threads: Stories we almost forgot

Sacred Threads is part of the Illuminate project, a participatory arts programme exploring creativity as a way to connect, heal, and share stories across diverse communities.

From Sunday 28 September 2025 – Sunday 8 February 2026, they will deliver a series of 12-15 workshops at Attenborough Arts Centre, Leicester, running Sundays 12.30–3.30pm.

These workshops will explore different artistic practices – embroidery, linocut, pottery, and zine-making – as creative entry points into storytelling.

The programme builds on Phase One of Illuminate, expanding into new artforms while deepening community participation. It continues as an exploration of the intersection of Art, Faith and Mental Health.

The programme will include a Podcast hosted in partnership with LIAH (Leicester Islamic Arts & Heritage) and The Lantern Initiative and will explore the intersection on Art, Faith and Mental Health through a series of episodes with various guests.

It will also include an Open Mic/Poetry Night, an artist’s round table event and a family friendly drop in embroidery session.

Please note: all of these workshops are booked externally with Parables of Light. Any help or questions about booking, please contact them through the booking link.

These are free events however some of them require a refundable deposit that will secure your place.
