Online booking will be available on Monday 2 March.

Can you crochet but need some help to take it to the next level? Then this 3-week course is just for you!

This short course is designed for those with basic crochet skills to build confidence and improve their crochet knowledge. Tutor Bonita will take you from groundhog granny squares to pattern perfection. During this course you will also get the opportunity to ask for help with techniques and patterns that you would like to try.

You will need to know the following before you start the course:

  • how to make a slip knot hold the hook and yarn
  • Work chain, slip stitch, crochet and treble stitch

In the first session we’ll discuss your crochet skill level and set the pace from there! The aim of the course is for you to be able to crochet along a foundation chain, learn how to increase and decrease stitches, learn new stitches such a bobble or shell, and create patterns within your crochet. We will also look at various patterns and diagrams to help you better understand how to read them before moving on to starting the pattern you have chosen.

This course has a relaxed structure and worksheets will be provided for the skills covered. However, this course is very much guided by you and what you would like to learn and can be adapted to your individual skills and what you would like to learn. As well as gaining a sense of achievement and improving your skills, it’s also a very mindful craft and can help improve mental health.

Over the three evenings, we’ll cover:

  • Reading a simple pattern and making basic crochet flowers.
  • Making and joining Granny squares with the join as you go method.
  • Reading crochet diagrams and using this to create the ripple pattern
  • Learning textured stitches such as popcorn stitch, bobble stitch etc
