Next Gen. Creatives: Movement

‘Movement’ is a collaborative project between the Attenborough Arts Centre’s Next Gen Creatives and artist Mellow Baku.

Across eight sessions, the group came together to explore the idea of movement and what it means to them. The title ‘Movement’ was chosen by the group for its openness and its ability to hold many interpretations. It can refer to physical motion, such as dance, or the ways we move through time and space. It also speaks to political movements, including body activism and disability politics. For some, it connects to personal histories: family heritage, migration across countries, and the passage of time and lineage.

Throughout the project, Mellow Baku shared music, poetry, and visual art techniques, supporting the group in exploring these themes through experimentation and play. This showcase captures a moment within that ongoing process.

The ideas presented here are not fixed—they are still forming, shifting, and in motion.

Next Gen. Creatives

The Next Gen. Creatives is for people aged 16-25 and invites participants to shape our artistic programme, empowering them to become the next generation of artists, curators, performers and creative professionals.

By joining Next Gen. Creatives, young people in Leicester have the opportunity to network with professional artists and practitioners, gain valuable life skills and learn about the various employment pathways open to them in the arts and creative sector. In recent years the group has delivered their own workshops, curated their own exhibitions, met internationally renowned artists and taken part in artist-led workshops.
