Sacred Threads: Stories We Almost Forgot

April 17 - May 31
A collection of drawings and magazine cut-outs collected into a collage. At the top is written 'Life isn't about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself'.

Sacred Threads: Stories We Almost Forgot is a reflective exhibition that brings together faith, art and mental health, emerging from a collaborative creative programme developed in partnership with The Lantern Initiative and Takhleeq Leicester.

Rooted in community, the exhibition shares works created by participants who took part in a series of artist-led workshops exploring personal and collective stories through making. Across a range of media — including embroidery, lino print, pottery, and sketchbooking — participants were invited to reflect on belief, identity, emotional wellbeing and memory, using art as a space for expression, connection and care.

The works on display are created by the participants themselves, each offering an intimate and powerful response to lived experience and spirituality. Together, they form a woven archive of stories that speak to resilience, vulnerability and hope — stories that are often unheard or almost forgotten.

Alongside these community-led works, the exhibition also features an artist’s response, developed in dialogue with the participants’ creations. This body of work reflects on shared themes and sacred threads, offering another lens through which to consider the role of faith-inspired art in supporting mental health and fostering belonging.

Sacred Threads: Stories We Almost Forgot invites audiences to slow down, listen deeply, and reflect on how creative practice rooted in faith and community can hold space for healing and storytelling.
