The Sitar Music Society Presents: “String Beats”: An Evening of Indian Classical Music and Timeless Melodies

After performing to audiences across the UK for many years, Sandeep KandolaHarminder Sahota and Harkiran Sahota who form ‘String Beats’ return to Leicester – where their musical journeys first began – for a special evening celebrating the beauty, depth and evolving nature of Indian music as part of the Diwali Celebrations in the City.

Rooted in Indian classical music, this concert reimagines familiar melodies in unexpected ways, blending tradition with creativity. The evening will unfold as a journey of discovery where tradition and imagination meet to create something distinctive and memorable.

Born and raised in Leicester, Sandeep Singh Kandola began his musical journey with folk music before pursuing the Sarangi (a bowed instrument) under the guidance of Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, Pandit Bharat Bhushan Goswami, and Sardar Satwinderpal Singh.

Harminder Sahota is an emerging Sitar artist whose expressive playing and cross-cultural collaborations have earned recognition across the UK. She is also a student of Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE.

Harkiran Sahota, a disciple of Pandit Sanju Sahai, brings a dynamic approach to rhythm, seamlessly blending classical traditions with contemporary influences and folk artistry.

Whether you are a long-time lover of Indian classical music or discovering it for the first time, this evening promises a memorable celebration of music, culture, and Leicester’s rich artistic talent.
