Sunday Sessions: Sacred Patterns

We are partnering with local creative community groups for our weekly Sunday Sessions, to support artists and organisations while bringing you incredible workshops each week.
The sessions are designed and led by a local artist and groups, as they bring their own expertise to facilitate exciting creative workshops. Ranging from painting to pottery, wellbeing to pattern-making, there is always something amazing happening in these relaxed and welcoming sessions. No need to have previous experience, join us to learn something new while meeting local communities.
Our Sunday Sessions are part of our ongoing commitment to making art accessible to all. Our Learning team are working hard to expand our public programmes, providing open spaces for communities to come together in welcoming and inspiring environments.
Each session will be based in our Attenborough Café or the Salmon Gallery, and are free for everyone.
Please note that on the dates the community groups are not doing their sessions, we will have our regular Sunday Sessions set up with crafting materials, boardgames and dress-up materials facilitated by our Learning Team.

Sacred Patterns with Ferdous Hussein
‘Sacred Patterns & Shared Stories’ is an 18-month Islamic arts project bringing together families, young people and communities across Leicester. The project explores geometry, pattern, colour, language and storytelling through hands-on workshops led by local artists. Across the 18 months, participants can take part in monthly creative sessions, spoken word and podcasting, floral and biomorphic art, Arabic calligraphy, and large-scale collaborative artworks, all leading towards a final public exhibition in 2027.
As part of this project, Ferdous Hussein is partnering with our Sunday Sessions for two workshops.
These sessions are for families, young people, adults, and anyone interested in exploring Islamic arts and creative practice.
Ferdous Hussein is a community arts practitioner based in Leicester. Her work brings together Islamic arts, memory, heritage, and hands-on creativity to help families and young people explore a variety of materials and techniques.
