Description

This one-day masterclass is for those with some experience of life drawing. You will explore a wide range of styles and techniques to draw and paint the human figure and participants will be encouraged to challenge their practice to create something new and unique and feel a sense of personal discovery.

You will begin by experimenting with a variety of drawing techniques, using different media, and looking for ways to take your studies on to the next level. You will be asked to consider what you hope to achieve in your artwork, and to talk about your artistic influences.

Leading up to lunch you’ll push the boundaries of your drawing methods.

After a short break for lunch, we will look at and discuss a large collection of contemporary and traditional figurative art works, brought in by the tutor, and consider why they are (or aren’t) successful pieces of work.

The tutor will also demonstrate palettes for flesh tones, and discuss composition and the importance of having a goal in mind as you paint.

The group will then work on a two-and-a-half-hour pose/painting to end the workshop, followed by a short group appraisal.

The emphasis here is to go beyond ‘mere' accuracy and to move on to producing art and self-expression and the development of a personal style.

Tutor Scott Bridgwood is a working artist with over 30 years’ experience after graduating from Chelsea School of Art in 1992. He worked and taught art in Rome (Italy) for 10 years before moving to Leicester. It was during his time in Rome that he developed his passion for drawing/painting the human form, which continues to the present day. Scott has taught at Attenborough Arts Centre for nearly 20 years. He also teaches Life Drawing at De Montfort University and from his home studio in Leicester.

All materials are provided. Participants may bring in a canvas for the final painting if they wish, otherwise card will be provided.

Participants must be aged 18+.

This one-day workshop will start at 10:30am and end at 4pm, with a 30 minute break for lunch. Our café will be open, or you are welcome to bring your own refreshments.
