Drawing and Painting in the Botanic Garden

Online booking will be available on Monday 2 March.
The University of Leicester’s Botanic Garden is an inspirational place. Spend three days immersed in the gardens as you experiment with different drawing, painting and mixed media approaches, leading to a final painting or mixed media piece.
The Botanic Garden is a wonderful place for artists to work, both in the garden areas and in the green houses. You’ll complete drawing, painting and mixed media pieces using a number of different and interesting approaches, with materials and settings suggested by the tutor. Students will be encouraged to develop versatile and wide-ranging ways of creating images. There will be plenty of time to develop initial ideas and exploratory drawings into one final painting or mixed media work by the end of day three.
At the beginning of each morning the tutor will identify the challenges for the day and after working independently around the gardens, you’ll come together at the end of the afternoon to discuss the images created as a group.
A classroom base will be available at the Botanic Garden (also for use if weather conditions do not permit working outdoors) and parking arrangements will be sent prior to the course. There is ample free road parking very close to the Botanic Gardens – details will be sent to all participants closer to the start date. There are also bus services which run in close proximity to the garden.

She has tutored at Attenborough Arts Centre since its inception and is passionate about its aims, ambitions and imaginative approaches to the Arts.
Further information:
All materials will be provided.
Participants must be aged 18+.
There’ll be a short break for lunch each day. You’ll have access to complimentary tea/coffee making facilities but there is no other catering on site so we recommend that you bring a packed lunch with you each day.
The course will go ahead whatever the weather so please come prepared. We have a large indoor room in which to work if it really is too wet to go outdoors!
If the course/workshop you’d like to book is sold out, we do operate a waiting list – simply contact our box office team on 0116 252 2455 / arts-centre@le.ac.uk and ask to be added to the waiting list. We’ll then contact you if a place becomes available, with absolutely no obligation to accept it if you’ve made other plans!
Please ensure that you agree to our updated Terms & Conditions before booking as courses/workshops are non-refundable if cancelled within 21 days of the start date for any reason.
We aim to make all our sessions as accessible as possible and carers/PAs are very welcome – just remember to book their free place when you book your session. If you’d like to talk to us in advance of booking or attending your sessions to discuss your access needs, our Box Office team is here to help! Please note: This course will take place at the University of Leicester’s Botanic Garden in Oadby, not at Attenborough Arts Centre. Participants will need to be able to access the gardens, which include some uneven surfaces and steps. Wheelchair access is possible but some areas may not be easily accessible due to the nature of the old buildings and garden layout. Please talk to us in advance if you have access needs so we can ensure support is in place for you.
Free road parking is available very close to the Botanic Garden and there are several Blue Badge spaces available on site. Further information including parking details will be sent to all participants closer to the start date.
